about
In writing ((CONTEXT)) I asked as many people as possible to carry a small camera with them for a day, to stop whenever they felt like it and look in a direction or at a thing that they normally didn’t and take a picture. It was important to me that they not go out of their way or put any thought into making these moments happen, but that they grow up organically out of the rhythm of the person’s day. They would be the detritus of habitual movement, the information that goes unprocessed.
I collected these photographs, sorted through them and based all of the music for ((CONTEXT)) on about 8 of them (the number of bricks in a row corresponds the length of a certain timbre, the shadow of a fan corresponds to a specific rhythmic structure, etc, etc).
Then, in collaboration with the videographer Joe Riina-Ferrie, I returned to the site of the photographs that I wrote for and filmed the exact picture as it was taken, in addition to other surrounding details that further inform the image in some way (torn fabric behind a street sign, the room in which a neon sign is visible from, etc). These shots make up the video portion of the piece.

rather what there is round about or inside it.”
These almost heartbreakingly gentle felted piano compositions have the delicacy and loveliness of slow-falling snow. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 30, 2023
A work of beautiful, pointillist guitar from Martyn Heyne, the moving songs on “Electric Intervals” are made of tiny pinpricks of sound. Bandcamp New & Notable Nov 11, 2017
